Description
Set in the magnificent town of Bakewell in the heart of the Peak District National Park, the Rutland Arms Hotel offers a hint of Georgian elegance in unrivalled surroundings.
Lying equal distance from both Matlock and Buxton and on the edge of the Chatsworth estate, Bakewell is most famous for the Bakewell pudding, which originated here in the kitchens of the Rutland Arms. Today, it is a thriving market town that is steeped in the history of Chatsworth and Haddon Hall. The town is surrounded by spectacular countryside, easily accessible by road, rail and air.
The Rutland Arms Hotel was built for the Duke of Rutland in 1804. Today the building offers a unique character with a warm, friendly atmosphere and the traditional charm reminiscent of the Georgian era.
The hotel has a collection of 54 antique English clocks dating from 1670 to circa 1860, all of which should be of interest to the discerning purchaser of swinging pendulums interspersed by gentle ticks and tocks.
What is of most importance to the visitor, is the quality of the food. Food at the Rutland is exceptional. Greg Wallace, heads the kitchen team which is made up of good yorkshire lads. Greg has worked in a number of award winning restaurants including the London Criterion Marco Pierre White before returning a little closer to home. Whilst Matt Robinson, the sous chef has gained his work experience at Gordon Ramsey's Savoy Grill, then moving on to work at Michelin starred Winteringham Fields. The menu at The Square restaurant here at the Rutland Arms hotel is both impressive in style whist being impeccable in presentation.
